Things to Avoid Wearing at a Formal Event

Even the most glorious gown can succumb to bad fashion sense if you opt to wear something that can totally ruin your look. Two things come immediately to mind, as both have the power to instantly transform glamorous into hideous.

Visible lingerie. While it doesn’t much matter what you wear under your gown, never wear lingerie that peeks out from the edges. This includes dark bras and panties under a light or sheer dress and bra straps that hang out or don’t match the cut of the gown.

Sneakers. This applies to guys and girls, as they look equally silly on either. Sure, fashion mags say sneakers look cute with a sundress, but that’s if you’re hanging out at a park. Sneakers never make the cut with a formal gown, not even if you’re a celebrity.

If you hate heels or must wear comfortable shoes, go for a pair of fancy yet cozy flats. Choose from velvet, satin or crepe that matches the style and color family of your dress.
